How to land your Dream job

1Use your resume to tell a story

Your resume is the recruiters first impression of you. It’s how they are getting to know you. Sure, your resume should look good but more importantly it should TELL YOUR STORY. A recruiter should be able to read through your resume and understand your career story. Be sure to highlight the growth through each job position. Don’t list the same duties on every role. As you have advanced through each job take careful note of NEW responsibilties and accomplishments.

3 Get a coach

Any great althlete has a coach to take them to the next level so why wouldnt you? Your coach could be a mentor, therapist, or professional career coach. What you want to be sure of is that this person that will take you to the next level and truly hold you accountable. Shop around, do your research, ask for referrals - remember this is YOUR FUTURE, there is nothing more important.

5 Ask for referrals

Your #1 initiative should be to get yourself referred. 70% of jobs are found through networking. Have a friend that works in your dream industry? Ask them for a referral! Reach out to your LinkedIn Network. Be prepared with your resume and show them why you would be a solid referral.

2 Brand yourself

It’s no secret that anyone hiring is going to google your name. Be sure they are seeing what YOU WANT them to see by building an online presence that reflects your accomplishments and boosts your career. Clean up your social media. Maybe its time to retire that pic of you at that bachelor/bachelorette party you don’t remember. Also, be sure to check your tagged photos and remove yourself from anything that doesn’t reflect the best version of you.

4Practice your interview, repeat

Your interview is your ONE opportunity to shine. Be prepared. Have your mentor, spouse, or friend sit down with you and go through potential questions and answers. Know your resume inside and out, be comfortable talking about your accomplishments. Keep in mind your interview might be a video call, be prepared and ensure you have a quiet space, nice backdrop, clear connection, and that you look professional.
